Tomorrow, the kids are going to attempt me to persuade me to get them something for the classroom. Maybe puppies! They will have to collaborate and come up with some really good reasons to try and persuade me to do it.
Later in the week, your sweeties will write a persuasive letter to try to persuade you to give them something they want! At home, talk with you child about how to be smart and persuade. Maybe you can even persuade them to do something that you want so they can experience how it feels to be persuaded. Have fun with it!
- Go out and get pledges from family, neighbors, co-workers or friends for how many words you think your child can spell correctly.
- Start studying the spelling words with your child. I suggest making several sets on index cards so you can keep some in the car and at home for practice. They need to be able to read each word, write each word, and spell each word aloud.
- I will give the test on April 19th, then grade the tests and let each of you know how many words your child got correct. Collect the pledges and return them to school right after Spring Break. There will be prizes for the best spellers and just for participating.
One last thing...
While I was surfing around the 'net, I came across a website that I thought was just perfect for parents of kindergarteners. It's called The Knot String, and it's a great way to teach the value of money to little ones who are too young for an allowance. The concept created by Phil Rogan uses a shoelace and is simple enough for even a three-year-old to understand. I hope this is helpful!
