During the first two years of school, we have been focusing on learning rules, routines and procedures, like...how to walk in line, how to listen for and respond to the teacher's voice, or what to do when you arrive in the classroom. Kindergartners are learning HOW to be a student. My philosophy is...Practice Makes Perfect! So we have been practicing a lot and having lots of discussions too.
Welcome to our class everyone! I am so happy to be able to meet and greet each little face and their family members. It's going to be a great year! Here is a peek at one of our many centers in class--the Story Corner. It's so soft and inviting that the kids can't wait to go hang out there and read a book or two! This week, the children will be learning how to use each center correctly and getting some time to practice using the centers independently. Later on, small group reading instruction will take place during Centers Time. Learning to stay focused on a task and to work independently of adults are two important skills that we are helping to build in the students during this learning time. For the next blog post, I will get a few shots of some of our other centers in action, and you will get a chance to meet Ms. Koeppl, our wonderful class para. Well, that's all for now!
