On the first full day of spring, the kids and I did our annual Spring Dance set to a tune called "Dayenu". If you watch carefully, you can make out the happy flowers planted in the garden and the beautiful butterflies that flutter in and out of the flowers.
The kindergartners perform our annual Spring Dance on the first full day of Spring. Watch the flowers, butterflies, ladybugs and caterpillars celebrate the new season!
Ice cream soda, cherry on the top.
Tell me the name of your sweetheart!
Some of the vibrating objects we explored were my guitar "Grace", my son's Guitar (no name yet!), a star-shaped metal wand that rings when it vibrates, a small speaker, and stretched rubber bands.
Tomorrow during Science time, I plan to use recording software on my laptop to record different vibrating sounds (including our voices) and to look at the sound wave shapes they make.
You could make flash cards, like the ones I made in the picture, and go over them each day. When you think your child knows many of them, give them a practice spelling bee quiz and see how they do. Let's make High Bridge Elementary know how smart our tiny guys are!
The kids were also happy to learn that A.A. Milne was the author of all the Winnie the Pooh stories. Watch the video below with your child and talk about personification--what did the daffodil do in the poem that only a person can do in real life?
Our kindergarten class memorized this lovely poem by A.A. Milne for their poetry journals. We acted out the lines and even learned how to draw a daffodil. The flowers in this video live in my front yard.
--Be sure to surf over to DiscoveryEducation.com and login using the username and password that I sent home. Check your child's assignment folder for the magnet video and watch it over Spring Break. Ask your child what they really are interested in learning about and email me...I'll find videos for them and put them into their assignment folder.
--field trip coming up on Friday, April 12, but money must be in by April 8th!!!! If not, your child will not go, so please get that fee in ASAP.
--Spring Break packets for Language Arts and Math can be found at this link over on the PGCPS site. Starting this week, your child can do a little each day, and turn them in when we return from Spring Break.
--On Wednesday, we are going to create our own Food Network-style cooking show and will make Jelly Bean Soup...Rachel Ray, look out!!! Look for the poem to come home in your child's blue folder.
--Thank you so much for sending in the empty soda bottles! Our planting project will begin when we return from Spring Break, so please keep 'em coming. I'll let you know when we collect enough so each kindergartener can make their own planter.
