This is just a quick post to say a huge THANK YOU to all those who took the time to come conference with me about your child yesterday. It is always great to connect parents with teachers and to establish a strong working team. If you ever have any questions or concerns about your child, please don't hesitate to call, email or visit. We are in this together!
One more note...many of you want to work with your children to help them practice reading sight words at home. With that in mind, I revamped the Sight Word list on this site, putting the words in the order in which we learn them in class. So far, we have learned I, see, we, my and like. Please click on the Sight Words tab above to access the list. There are lots of ways you can use the sight words at home:
--write them on index cards and use as flash cards
--tape the index cards in various places around the house (i.e. bathroom mirror, doors, etc.) and ask your child to read the word before they can enter
--put one sight word card on each step and have your child read each word as they walk up the stairs
--play fun games, like Go Fish or Concentration with the sight words
--have a fun spelling test...pick a card and read it, then ask your child to spell it. Then let your child be the reader and you the speller.
Use your imagination. If you come up with other fun ways to practice sight words, please share it with us all by leaving a comment below.
Have a splendid week!
