Sight words are words that we learn to read instantaneously, without having to sound them out. Learning to quickly recognize and read words like "is", "the", or "can" helps a child read more quickly and fluently, and frees up their brains for the real task of reading, which is comprehension.
Our county recently added close to 10 additional sight words to our curriculum, bringing the total to 39 that our little learners have to know before kindergarten ends. In order to meet the benchmark, WE NEED YOUR HELP!!!
Our Skype buddy-classroom teacher, Mrs. Savario, shared with me a simple, yet amazingly effective app called Sights by Educasic. You download it to your smart phone (Apple or Android), sign up, log on with our classroom code, and work with your child on their sight words--it's that simple! I've sent some flyers home about it, and some of you have signed up already (thank you!!!) We are actually one of the beta testers for the app, and I'd love it if everyone would sign up.
