This week a flyer will come home asking you to search the house with your child to find examples of environmental print to send in. We will be discussing them in class, as well as creating a bulletin board display of all the words they can read.
If you scroll to the end of this blog post (or click on the Fun Stuff, Videos tabs), you can watch a video with your child about environmental print. See if your child can read each word on their own!
- Some of the children have already memorized their pin numbers (yay, high five for you!!!), but some still need practice. Please use the practice sheet that was sent home and help your child practice pushing their pin number and the enter key. This will hasten the lunch line and give all of the buyers more time to eat.
- When you send in lunch money, it is critical that I get it so that I can turn it in to the cafeteria. Please place all lunch money in a baggie or envelope with your child's name and pin number written on it, then put this inside the purple folder. I am still seeing some kids pulling money out of their pockets during class or needing to leave the lunch room to get money from out of their backpack. Your money is very important, and I want to be sure it gets safely to the right place.
- The cafeteria ladies have not been passing out low account reminders as they have done in the past. So it is up to you to monitor your child's lunch account and send in/add money as needed. Children who do not have enough money in their account have to eat a cheese sandwich and drink water. There is a new system in place in the county where you can add money online called School Payment Solutions.
Great readers start out by recognizing and reading words in their daily environment, or environmental print. Can you read these words?
