We began Story Journals and Poetry Journals in Language Arts last week. Writing instruction happens during Journals time, including guided and independent writing activities. Poetry journals are done each day. On Monday of each week, a new poem will be introduced in class. The students will memorize the poems, learn about rhyme, and do guided activities with the poems. On Thursdays, we have a boys vs. girls reciting contest, and then the kids will add their poem to their Poetry Journal. Journals will come home for sharing periodically.
Other new things that started last week are the daily behavior chart (filled in by your child; reviewed and signed by you each evening), class helpers, Star of the Week, and the rainbow wall. For more information about those, please refer to the Class Rules page under Class Info above.
- What To Expect--A Kindergarten Handbook is an excellent resource for parents to learn more about school procedures and expectations. Just follow the link, or hover over the Class Info tab to find it.
- Fill out and return all emergency cards and forms that were sent home last week. If you need another set, please let us know.
- Remember to place your child's lunch money in a labeled baggie or envelope. Loose bills or change tend to get lost or shared.
- Send a change of clothes for your child in a labeled baggie. We have had several incidents already where a child need to change, but had no clothes.
- Check the Kindergarten Calendar on a regular basis for important dates that pertain to you and your child.
